DACĂ IUBEŞTI FĂRĂ SĂ SPERI

Dacă iubeşti fără să speri
De-a fi iubit vreodată,
Se-ntunecă de lungi păreri
De rău viaţa toată.

Şă-ţi lasă-n suflet un amar
Şi în gîndiri asemeni,
Căci o iubire în zadar
Cu moartea-i sor' de gemeni.

Dar vindecarea la dureri
În piept, în partea stîngă-i,
De-acolo trebuie să ceri
Cuvinte să te mîngîi.

Acolo afli adăpost
Oricîte se întîmple,
Ca şi-un amor care-ar fi fost,
Viaţa ta o împle.

Căci un luceafăr răsărit
Din liniştea uitării
Dă orizon nemărginit
Singurătăţii mării.

Şi ochiul tău întunecat
Atunci îl împle plînsul,
Iar ale vieţii valuri bat
Călătorind spre dînsul.

Şi dau cadenţe de nespus
Durerii tale lunge,
Pe cînd luceafărul e sus
Ca să nu-l poţi ajunge.

Zîmbeşte trist cu raze reci
Speranţelor deşarte :
În veci iubi-o-vei, în veci
Va rămînea departe.

Ş-a tale zile-or fi cum sînt
Pustii ca nişte stepe ;
Iar nopţile de-un farmec sfînt
Ce nu-l mai poţi pricepe.


SE AMI SENZA SPERARE

Se ami senza sperare
Di esser mai amato,
S'oscura di lunghi regreti
La tua vita intera.

Ti rende il cuore amaro
Ed anche il pensiero,
Perche un amore in vano
Alla morte e gemello.

Ma il guarire dei dolori
Alla sinistra c'e nel petto,
Da li devi aspettare
Parole di sollievo.

Vi troverai riparo
Qualunque cosa accada,
Come un amore gia compiuto
Colmera la tua strada.

Perche una stella che spunto
Dal silenzio del dimenticare,
Da orizzonti illimitati
Alla solitudine del mare.

I tuoi occhi rabbuiati
Allora li empie il pianto,
E le onde della vita t'assaliscono
Verso di loro viaggiando.

E danno indicibili cadenze
Al tuo lungo dolore,
Mentre la stella splende sopra
Che tu non la raggiunga.

Dai freddi raggi sorride triste
Alla tua vana speranza :
Per sempre l'amerai, per sempre
Rimanera in lontananza.

E i tuoi giorni resterano
Deserti come steppe ;
E le notti di un fascino santo
Che non puoi piu capire.

If you love without hope
To be loved one time,
It darken with long regrets
Your entire life.

And leave you a bitter soul
And also your thinking,
Because a love in vain
With death is always twin.

But the healing of the pains
There is in the left side chest,
From there you have to ask
Words to comfort you.

There you find shelter
Whatever happens,
As a love that would have been
Replenishes your life.

Because a star which has rised
From the silence of oblivion
Gives unlimited horizon
To the loneliness of the sea.

And your darkened eyes
Then are filled with tears,
And the waves of the life knock
Travelling towards them.

And give unspeakable cadences
To your long sorrow,
While the star brights above
So that you couldn't reach it.

It smiles sadly with cold rays
To your desert hopes :
Forever you'll love her, forever
She'll stay far away.

And your days will be as they are
As desert as the steppes ;
And the nights of a sacred charm
That you couldn't understand.
