RETROVERSIUNE

Susţineam examenul
La limba moartă,
Şi trebuia să mă traduc
Din om în maimuţă.

Am luat-o pe departe,
Traducînd mai întîi un text
Dintr-o pădure.

Retroversiunea devenea însă
Tot mai dificilă,
Cu cît mă apropiam de mine.
Cu puţin efort
Am găsit totuşi echivalenţe mulţumitoare
Pentru unghii şi părul de pe picioare.

Pe la genunchi
Am început să mă bîlbîi.

În dreptul inimii mi-a tremurat mîna
Şi-am făcut o pată de soare.

Am mai încercat eu s-o dreg
Cu părul de pe piept,
Dar m-am poticnit definitiv
La suflet.


RETROVERSIONE

Sostenevo l'esame
Alle lingue antiche
E dovevo tradurre me
Dall'uomo alla scimmia.

Mi sono scansato
Traducendo prima un testo
Da una foresta.

La retroversione diventava pero
Sempre piu difficile
Mentre mi avvicinavo da me.
Con un minimo sforzo
Ho trovato, comunque, equivalenze soddisfacenti
Per le unghie e per i peli sulle gambe.

Ai ginocchi
Ho cominciato balbettare.

Davanti al cuore la mano mi tremolo
E ho fatto una macchia di sole.

Ho provato di sistemarlo
Con i peli sul petto,
Ma mi sono inciampato definitivamente
All'anima.


RETROVERSION

I was stating the exam
In the ancient languages
And I had to translate myself
From man to monkey.

I tried to avoid it
Translating first a text
From a forest.

Although the retroversion became
More and more difficult
While I was approaching by myself.
With a little effort
However, I found satisfactory equivalents
For the nails and the hair on the legs.

At the knees
I started stammer.
By the heart my hand shook
And I made a spot of sun.

I've tried to set it to rights
With the hair on the chest,
But I finally stumbled
Upon the soul.
