Costa Rica: A Unique Tropical Getaway

Costa Rica: A Unique Tropical Getaway

By Henry Arnault

A country full of flora and fauna, rice and beans and a plethora of rainforest critters, Costa Rica has a lot to offer any free spirited traveler. Bordering the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Caribbean Sea to the east, there's no question that this colorful island celebrates a laid-back, beachy vibe. With Nicaragua laying to the north and Panama southward, this country is a tropical sandwich of Central American goodness and the perfect tropical escape.

There are so many reasons to visit this great country: surfing, volcanoes, the rain forest wildlife, countless rare plants, white water rafting, hiking, zip line tours, and the list goes on. Costa Rica is a country with endless possibilities for adventure and nature exploration.

Many potential travelers expect the rain forest to be just that... a bunch of trees bracing themselves against sheets of rain while monkeys scurry around underneath. But when taking a Latin America vacation you will realize that more often there are quick rain showers, surrounded by sunshine. Packing rain gear is advisable if traveling to the rainforest, but don't be fooled into thinking you will be entering a monsoon.

Accommodations while staying in here can vary depending on price range and level of comfort. There are dozens of luxury hotels on the coast but for those looking to really rough it and experience the true rainforest, there are also jungle lodges that will allow you to sleep surrounded by all the night sounds of the forest. Monkeys talking, birds singing, and insects flying through the air are the accompanying melody to your sweet vacation slumber.

If not quite as confidant about tackling the whole rain forest exploration on your own, there are many tourist companies that offer their services and expert guides to help you safely discover the jungle. Bird watching and night hikes are just two more examples of all the great opportunities that await a very special Costa Rica vacation. Taking a trip there will leave you breathless and in awe at the natural wonder of an environment so out of the ordinary, unexpected, and otherworldly.

Costa Rica is wonderful because it's unpretentious and accepting. The local 'Ticos' are welcoming to foreign visitors and happy to chat about the wonders of their native land. The attitude is relaxed, each day there is something new to be enjoyed and treasured and 'La pura vida' (the good life) is never taken for granted.
