Living by the bay

I'd prefer to stay up late, but I've been getting up at 5:30 a.m. to go sit in meditation with a small group nearby. I normally start my day with meditation, but sitting in silence with others seems to cause me to sit with less bleariness, and certainly less of the background noise of whatever pops into my head. I've always found it interesting how one can think many things at the same time, like a radio with too many stations crowded around the same number. Over the years, that cacophony has quieted down to to nearly nothing (well, most of the time).

My days have been mostly silent, except for the sound of cars whooshing by on the road, last night's thunder storm, rather quiet cicadas, and my occasional banjo playing. The spinning wheel creaks and rattles a bit.

I tried to watch a movie last night but instead started spinning up some yarn. I planned on adding leaves made of silk, and spent the last half hour of my evening preparing them. But, this afternoon, I felt moved to make it knotty and sloppy and so, the silk sits, waiting for the project that calls to it.

More on this yarn (with a bit of repetition) over at the Scenic Turnout.
