Victoria Designs a Shirt to Benefit Japan

Lady Gaga and Victoria Beckham are among the A-List celebrities who are designing t-shirts to raise money for the relief effort in Japan. Vogue Japan and GQ Japan announced yesterday that they have teamed up to support the “Save Japan! Project” in order to promote the t-shirt sales, which will benefit the Japanese Red Cross.

From a Save Japan! Project rep. translated from Japanese:“The long road to recovery is now; we’re creating opportunities for new visions and values to be put to work. Fashion is working together, the creativity and the design industry peers have teamed up to build a charity that is inclusive.”

The t-shirts are being designed under the theme “Fashion Unites for Japan” and will be sold on a global scale. In addition to Lady Gaga and Victoria Beckham, celebrities who will be designing t-shirts include Karl Lagerfeld, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Alber Elbaz, Charlize Theron, Orlando Bloom, Cyndi Lauper and Blake Lively.

The t-shirts will be sold in 11 countries at UNIQLO stores in Japan, United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

Vogue Japan and GQ Japan are hoping to raise 100 million yen or roughly $1.2 million for the Japanese Red Cross through the “Save Japan! Project” and “Fashion Unites for Japan” t-shirt sales.

The t-shirts will be available online through www.uniqlo.com and in stores starting on June 25, 2011.

David Beckham is Ready to Help with Tsunami Relief

David Beckham, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, is ready to raise funds to help the victims of the tsunami tragedy that hit Japan overnight.

"I will lend my support in any way possible," said Beckham, who was named to that position in 2005 and helped raise funds for the relief effort the last time a tsunami hit that area of the world. "This devastation has hit so many families. Unfortunately, these international tragedies are happening all the time. My heart goes out to those people."

As a non-profit humanitarian agency funded entirely by voluntary contributions, UNICEF provides as much support as possible to children who are victims of natural disasters. And that's something close to Beckham's heart.

Beckham, who has three boys and a fourth child on the way, wanted to spend some time Friday to talk about how sports can help at a time like this. "Obviously, they right now are dealing with the loss of their homes and belongings, but then I think it's time to raise the hopes and morale of people who are dealing with this tragedy. I've always said the game of soccer and watching other sports takes your mind off certain things. That's the power of sports."

Victoria Tweets: Charity Christmas Card

Every year around Christmas time, the Beckhams usually auction off or participate in the sale of items with proceeds benefitting specific charities. This year is no exception. The Victoria Beckham team has design as special Christmas card that is available at Brown Thomas. It is a series of dress tags from Victoria's various collections and they combine to make the shape of a Christmas tree. Very cute!
