How To Save Money While Traveling In Europe

How To Save Money While Traveling In Europe

Europe has a rich heritage and many historic sites to explore throughout the whole continent. Most travelers from around the world all want to visit Europe, but it can be expensive without planning. By just following a few sensible tips and planning your journey well in advance, you can make traveling in Europe a lot more affordable.

The choice of places to visit in Europe is amazing. You might want to follow in the steps in British Royalty by visiting Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle, perhaps climb the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or just sit with friends on a Spanish beach in Ibiza watching the sun go down.

When you have planned exactly where you want to go, think about how long you want in each country and area. It is worth remembering that Europe is a smaller continent than others, but it can take a while to go from one place to another. The continent relies heavily on trains rather than aircraft within each country, so these can be slower and more expensive.

Once you have firmed up your itinerary, start thinking about the transport. Most airlines charge less by booking well in advance, especially if you can travel low season. Have a chat with your travel agent to see if they can give you a good deal by booking everything with them, or it may be cheaper doing everything yourself by using the Internet and a credit card.

With the air travel sorted out, start thinking about hotels. They again offer great rates if you can book in advance and avoid public holidays. Online sites that offer hotel accommodation can give great deals, but always look for the hotel's own site to see if its cheaper booking direct. Generally booking a hotel in the center of town and close to the main attractions will cost more, so to save money find a hotel a few miles away. For younger people - normally under 26 years of age, check out the availability of hostels. These give a lower standard of accommodation, but far cheaper.

Rail travel is the main way to move round each country and is very safe but expensive. Again, always book ahead as there are often good deals by committing to a journey twelve weeks ahead. Younger people can also get bargain rail travel by applying for the various rail passes throughout the continent. These rail passes are only available before arriving, so do your homework first. Most of the longer distance routes get extremely busy, so book and journeys you have planned locally.

A lot of countries even allow travelers (normally young people) to work while they are traveling. This could be in a bar or the services industry which will help with travel costs, but always check with the authorities before starting work or you could be expelled.

With so much choice, the continent has something for everybody. The only problem with planning any vacation is fitting everything in to your stay. The Internet can really help in so many ways while planning a trip and make traveling in Europe much cheaper.
